Bike For Ben - July, 2006
THANK YOU to all of our Sponsors and to all who participated.
I will admit that I was a little worried about the weather at 5:30 AM! But like our journey with The Independence House – we trusted in God and it all turned out perfect!
The day was a beautiful summer day – there were about 300 people – including staff. Lots of good food, plenty of water to keep us hydrated, and lag vehicles for those of us
who needed a lift! Lots of bikers, walkers, and plenty of strollers. Everyone there in support of The Independence Foundation and the Independence House!
Our first mile was in Loving Memory of Marc Swiatkowski. The t-shirts this year were designed by our very own Jon Gardner – who will soon live in the Independence House.
The design portrays people moving towards The Independence House – with a dove flying overhead – that dove is Marc, a founding member of The Independence Foundation,
who will always be with us.
I hope you got a chance to meet some of our families – they were there in force! I encouraged everyone to personally meet the people who want to live in the Independence
House and ask them why it is so important. I hope you had a glimpse into their dreams – because you are helping to make them come true.
When the day was done – we had almost $50,000 in donations – both Corporate funds and dollars that came in that day! This money will be used to fund our programs and put
towards land and building expenses for The Independence House.
Heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this day possible: all the good folks at The Marilla United Methodist Church, The Marilla Volunteer Firemen, The Girls Scouts,
and all of our family and friends – we anxiously look forward to seeing you again next year at the Bike for Ben!
