The Independence House - A Place to Call Home
It is nothing short of a miracle! In the month of June The Independence Foundation put in a purchase offer on a house. In July we closed on the house, and in August Ben, Holly and Tammy were living there!
To understand the magnitude of this miracle - you need to know that we have been working with the state on a project like this for 2 years now. You need to appreciate the days, weeks and months of construction, renovation, remodeling; installing automatic doors, solving problems, finding, hiring, training and scheduling of staff, budgeting, shopping, moving and settling, and finally agreeing on house rules and living!
All of this done with only one contractor and four volunteer days! We e-mailed that we needed volunteers to do some work - and they appeared. We e-mailed out a gift registry for the kitchen items and they appeared We made a call for a garage fridge because the side by side in the kitchen was too small - and that appeared too! We hoped for an option for Ben and others to find a life of independence and that has appeared!
We continue to work with the state on the other planned houses - as there are still so many on wait lists for this type of housing.
The Independence Foundation , The Mullers, and the new residents of the very first Independence House thank you with all of our hearts!
